Adulting: Lean Business Design
Adulting is a digital tool designed to help young adults manage everyday overwhelm. Built through qualitative research and user validation, the platform transforms abstract stress into structured goals and actionable micro-steps, combining AI-assisted analysis, guided progress, and professionally curated content.
Year:
2026
Industry:
Mental Health
Client:
The Valley Bussines School
Project Duration:
3 months

CONTEXT
Adulting was developed as part of a Lean Innovation Master’s program under the challenge “Innovating for Mental Wellbeing.”
The objective was to identify a real, validated problem within the mental wellbeing space and design a viable digital solution.
Through early research, we identified a gap between clinical mental health solutions and productivity tools. Many young adults were not experiencing clinical disorders, but rather structural overwhelm: work pressure, financial stress, decision fatigue, and lack of clear direction.
This insight reframed the opportunity.

CHALLENGES
Defining the real problem
Avoid designing a generic “wellness app” and instead validate a concrete, recurring user pain.
Bridging emotional and practical needs
Users needed both emotional validation and structured action.Reducing cognitive load
The solution had to work for users with low energy and high mental fatigue.Designing without overcomplicating
Personalization was necessary, but without overwhelming onboarding flows.Validating assumptions quickly
We needed to test whether structured micro-actions could actually reduce perceived overwhelm.

SOLUTION
Adulting is a guided action platform that:
Uses a short diagnostic test supported by AI to identify the user’s primary area of friction.
Helps define a mid-term goal aligned with that area.
Breaks the goal into small, executable micro-actions.
Provides progress tracking and adaptive recommendations.
Integrates professionally curated educational content.
Offers optional personalization through structured inputs.
The experience is designed to create visible structure and reduce mental noise.
We developed and tested an interactive MVP in Figma, validating the core flow end-to-end.
OUTCOME
Conducted in-depth interviews with young adults (25–35).
Validated key behavioral patterns around overwhelm and decision paralysis.
Built and tested a functional MVP with real users.
Iterated based on feedback, especially around personalization and clarity of progress.
Presented the project to a jury and peers at the end of January.
Adulting was selected as one of the two winning pitches of the cohort.
The first phase of the project focused heavily on research, UX strategy, and validation. The next phase will concentrate on UI refinement, advanced personalization, and product scalability.
